I teach an energetic group of students with special needs in an urban Title I charter school in Baltimore City. They want to learn so much about the world around them and what's beyond the walls of our classroom. They come to school every day excited and ready to learn.
My students' disabilities range from Autism to Learning Disabilities and I find that the more hands-on and interactive learning can be, the more beneficial it is to my students.
Due to their disabilities, I am constantly changing up my teaching practices and finding new and exciting ways to reach and challenge my students without having them become frustrated and give up.
This year, I am teaching a group of 1st-4th graders in a pull-out setting, where I am helping them access the general education curriculum while also helping fill in the many learning gaps that they currently have.
My Project
I teach an amazing group of student whom struggle with reading. One of the main things that I am currently working on with my students is sight words. A lot of my students have weaknesses when it comes to sight words and require a lot of extra practice with this skill.
Once students are able to memorize their basic sight words, it makes reading that much easier to master!
I am requesting different reading and sight word games to help my students gain hands-on practice working on sight words. These games and activities will help my students master their basic sight words, which will in turn help them become even better readers!
I look forward to being able to use these games and activities with my students to help them become the amazing readers that I know they can be!
