They are all wonderful representations of people that our students can relate to. The students are so happy to read stories they can relate to and see heroes in themselves through the books. The students are making connections and relating the stories to real life through the experiences they read. \r\n\r\nWe take 15 minutes 2 times a week to buddy read. Students can pick a novel they want to read together with a classmate. It takes time, but after the novels are finished the students get to present highlights and learnings from the novels they read. One student who was initially shy has become more vocal in class because she's been practicing with the recorder and feels more confident in her skills.
