This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach fourth graders in a large urban district.

Most of my students come form low-income families with ninety percent of them receiving free lunch. The majority of my students are English Language learners. I want my students to get every chance they can to learn. My students are very eager and willing to learn. I want to make sure I can keep fueling that motivation with new experiences and opportunities.

My Project

We need a Apple MacBook in order to compete in the First Lego League. First Lego League is a competition in which students must design and program Lego Mindstorms robots to complete tasks. Students compete against other schools in regional tournaments. By being in the First Lego League my students will acquire or enhance the following skills: problem solving, predicting, team building, and giving presentations. My goal is to create two teams to compete this year compose between fourth and fifth graders.

By receiving an Apple MacBook my students will be able to participate in the First Lego League robotic competition.

The computer we currently are using is outdated and puts my students at a disadvantage when programming.

My students will be able to experience what engineers do on a daily basis. My students will have the opportunity to experiment, predict, and share their knowledge with fellow students from other schools.
