Help me give my students the opportunity to learn and use a tablet, so they too, have the skill set to one day compete with others trying to find employment in the 21st century.
My students are for sure one of a kind! Currently, I am working with a total of 54 fourth graders. This means 54 different personalities, backgrounds, learning abilities, and levels of support at home! I have students that are theatrical, kind, personable, funny, quiet, talkative, inquisitive, artistic, shy, confident, and even challenging. I have students that live and are supported by both parents, one parent, a grandparent, an aunt or uncle, or a foster parent. In my classroom, I work with students that can read and comprehend a novel, and students that struggle to read sight words. I feel I am fortunate to work with such a diverse population because it challenges me to further develop my skills, and my craft. Some students are more than ready for the challenges of fourth grade, and some are not. It is my job to meet all of their individualized needs and love doing it!
My Project
I currently work with 54 totally awesome 4th graders, that deserve more individual time, and access to technology! Students today are getting ready for jobs that do not yet exist! They live and breath technology, and absolutely love it.
As you know, with kids, when they love something, they are more interested and more engaged.
The more engaged they are, the more they learn! So my question is--WHY DO THEY NOT HAVE MORE ACCESS TO WHAT THEY LOVE? With the tablets I have chosen, students will have just that!
My school doesn't have a computer lab, and I currently have 4 laptops in my room. With these tablets, I would have a total of 8 computers! The extra computers would allow for me to rotate the use of technology more easily in my ability leveled small groups, so that students will have more access to practice the different skills, we have learned and are learning, at their level. Plus it affords for me, the teacher, to differentiate more easily, and thus reach out to my many different types of students. Many of my students tell me their computers are broken, and they only have mom or dad's cell phone. This makes it almost impossible to practice their skills using the great sites like Quizlet, Spelling City, and Boom Cards to name a few. Help me to give them what they love, and deserve!
