This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from a region that is rich in diversity and cultural heritage. They have a strong commitment to their families and a connection to their community. The area where they live has a lot of poverty but it also has a lot of caring adults and passionate educators who believe our students can be successful in everything and anything they do. My students are excited about school, are very engaged in my art classes, and enjoy being creative.

My Project

My students like to be involved in different projects, mediums, art styles, and art techniques. We will soon be embarking on a paper quilling unit where they get to work with their hands and make interesting and relevant artwork. Paper quilling is very popular right now so I would like to be able to bring the art form into the classroom where students can get familiar with how to make it and it is relevant for them. It's important to offer students opportunities to move around and use their hands, versus sitting still and coloring. Paper quilling offers many opportunities for students to express themselves and I am excited to teach them this art technique with quilling tools.
