Quieting Our Classroom for Better Testing

Help me give my students floor seating and headphones for a quieter testing environment. Currently, it is so loud while they are doing assessments they cannot concentrate!

My Project

My students are in the most loving empathetic people I have ever met, even though they are in the most impoverished elementary school in town. Due to high poverty, it is critical to get their first grade scores up and keep them up. This project will make it possible for my students to learn better by being able to listen and hear better. When you walk into my room at 8:00am, it is time for mandatory computer reading. They read on the computer.

IT IS SO LOUD!

With 25 student talking at the same time no one is learning. This project calls for headphones with microphones so that learning is equitable. Students are required to spend 50 minutes per day on math and reading on the computer, talking and answering questions. But, most importantly, they do ten assessments per year and seven standardized tests per year that also require quiet rooms with the ability to communicate with the tester. Having study headphones with built in microphones of their own will enable each child the ability to "be in their own learning and thinking world."

Additionally, I am adding some soft flexible seating so that several children can move from the round tables and disperse some of the sound around the room. Spreading out away from others will cut down on the chaos. My students deserve equitable learning and this project fills that gap.
