This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching at a title I school, majority of my students are coming from a low income family. Many of my kids face many challenges that I personally never had to face while growing up. Many of my kids have not had a great experience in the educational system, as well as at home. Art is an outlet for them to explore, create, and express ideas as an individual as well as to develop trust in the system which will help them to grow.

Teaching in general is not easy.

At a Title I school, it is more challenging. One of the greatest challenges is funding. I have 450 students.

My Project

The watercolors and oil pastels will allow students to create artwork from home while we are finishing the year with online teaching. They have shared with me that they have crayons or color pencils at home, but nothing else. In order for students to get a full experience as an artist, it is important for them to explore and develop skills using a variety of materials. I will deliver the materials to the students front door in order to continue to comply with the no contact order. This helps the students to create artwork as well as brings joy as they receive a gift. We can all use a little more joy during this crazy time.
