My Students

My students are a diverse group of Spanish students at a school of the arts. Some students have never taken a Spanish class, other students had at least a semester of Spanish. A handful of students are heritage Spanish speakers- meaning the language is spoken at their home. I have two native Spanish speakers this year as well!

My level one Spanish students are typical middle school students.

If you come by my classroom, one day we may be singing in Spanish and the next, we may be writing in the target language (something even native and heritage speakers need to work on). Students regularly speak the target language for credit with stamp sheets. I enjoy teaching Spanish because it is a new experience to many students and I am always learning something new!

My Project

My Spanish class is very skills based. I would like a ¿Qué tal? subscription for all of my Spanish One CP students.

Students are assessed on the interpretation of Spanish materials on a quarterly basis and a ¿Qué tal?

subscription would provide practice with engaging articles with high interest topics! The interesting, modern stories are sure to reach both the new and experienced Spanish learners in my class.

South Carolina adopted the Read to Succeed act in 2015. Although my students are practicing reading in another language, this project they will still be practicing literacy skills that can benefit them in college, careers, and citizenship.
