I teach in a rural Title 1 school on the coast of North Carolina. My students come from a variety of backgrounds with a wide range of abilities, but when they walk in my classroom they know that they are valued and cared for and that they will be learning something new each day in a safe, engaging environment.
Relationships and communication make up the heartbeat of my classroom.
Class discussions and hallway conversations are priceless when it comes to connecting with my students each day. They love to collaborate with one another on activities, whether through face-to-face communication or through electronic devices and programs. My students are eager to help out others when they are struggling and they celebrate each other when that "lightbulb" comes on for their peers. Despite the circumstances my students face outside of the classroom, they have a desire to learn and my goal is to fulfill that desire while making sure they feel cared for and important.
My Project
Discussion and collaboration is something you will never fail to see when you walk into my classroom. Sometimes this occurs in small groups, and other times it is whole group. When it comes to whole group there are days when all 25+ students have something to say all at once, and other days where the hum of the air conditioner has more of a presence because only a few students have thoughts to share. By bringing the Qball Throwable Microphone into my classroom, I am planning to bridge that gap.
The Qball Microphone will allow every student to grow confident not only in speaking, but in knowing that their voice deserves to be heard by others.
For the quiet students, it will allow their voices to be amplified. For the students that always have something to say, it will allow them to practice patience by waiting for their turn and also learn the value of listening to others. For the students that are reluctant to participate, it will help them grow more confident in speaking. The Qball is something my students can use in ALL subject areas and it will also bring physical activity into the classroom by throwing and catching. The element of surprise in not knowing when the Qball is going to be thrown or where it will go will ensure that students are engaged at all times and actively thinking about what's being taught and discussed. For a classroom where discussion and collaboration is key, the Qball Microphone will be a treasure.
