My Students

My students come from one the poorest counties in NC. It is very rural, with much farmland. Many of the students have never been out of this county. We have a large Hispanic population, which creates the need for translators - we rely a lot on our students for this. A large number of our students receive free lunch due to their socioeconomic status.

Being in a low wealth area does not deter our students in the least.

They have much determination and tenacity to succeed. I have seen many leave the county and then return to give back to the community that nurtured them.

My Project

My students present different projects in the library throughout the year. Students from other classes serve as audiences for these presentations. Sometimes the noise level can really get out of control.

By having the Qball, my students will be able to emphasize their voices so there won't be any question as to who is supposed to be speaking during their presentations.

Public speaking is a fear of many students and utilizing the Qball will hopefully give my students the confidence to do well in their speaking. Students in the audience will want to sit up straighter and pay attention once they discover the Qball and how it works. I plan to also allow teachers to borrow the Qball for their classrooms.
