Puzzles, Puzzles, Puzzles!
My students need all types of puzzles to enrich their everyday learning.
Do you remember buying puzzles and doing them at home for fun? Today, buying and doing a puzzle is not valued enough.
I currently have 26 Kindergarteners from a very low socio--economic area in California.
They are a bright, well-behaved bunch who has a high motivation to learn. They love hands-on activities and are up for a great challenge. They are looking forward to mastering every standard with pride.
I notice when my students are picking activities to do during free time, they never pick the puzzles to do. That is probably because I only have 1 puzzle and they do not know how to enjoy putting a puzzle together. I want my students to be able to pick out a puzzle that looks fun and challenging. When they do, they won't even know that they are building skills that will help them in all subjects.
Having these puzzles would mean so much to them because they will be so proud of themselves when they complete one or all of them.
I hope it will be one of the new favorite areas for them to choose.
