Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Pieces all over the place- Please help my students put them back together. Students think they are simply playing while completing puzzles; little do they realize they are making their brains develop at play. Once a puzzle has been completed they feel an enormous sense of accomplishment. "I did it"
I Teach at a very poor Tile 1 school in the city of Chicago.
It has become extremely frustrating and challenging when there is no money to enrich the classroom. My school is in a very low socioeconomic area where most of my students homes have been taken away by the bank. In general all of my students come from struggling families. Our school never has extra funding for extras and if they do, the funds will never go towards puzzles. Many of my students families will never have additional money to purchase puzzles. Therefore I hope to be able to provide a fun and interesting way of learning and building self-esteem at the same time!!
My Project
Puzzles come in many shapes and sizes. Children should start experiencing the challenges of solving puzzles as early as possible. Some puzzles are very basic which can involve few pieces, typically inserting them into slots onto a wooden board. As students grow more confident they can progress to more difficult and challenging puzzles.
Puzzles encourage logical thinking because they involve putting related pieces together to form the big picture. Puzzle making is an activity which my kindergarten students will be able to perform quietly,because it involves concentration.
If my students are able to put puzzles together this will encourage problem solving and logical thinking skills later on in life.
Also, by being able to complete a puzzle their self-esteem will highly develop.
