Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year I have switched from teaching Fourth and Fifth graders to teaching Kindergarten through Second grade Special Education students in a low-income/high poverty school district in Oklahoma. We are a Title One school with 100 percent of students on free or reduced lunches. We have a high ELL population with many of our parents being first or second generation immigrants.
My students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom.
They need a ton of opportunities with a variety of manipulatives in order to be successful.
My Project
My students love puzzles. Most of the puzzles we have are falling apart or missing pieces. They have played with them so much that we now need new ones.
I use puzzles to help reinforce the skills we are learning in class.
Puzzles help my students develop in so many different ways. The puzzles I have chosen will help reinforce counting, letters and sounds, rhyming words, animals, and much more. Not only that, these puzzles will help my students develop their fine motor skills, problem solving, learning patience, and social skills (when they complete a puzzle with a friend). My students definitely need help in all these areas and puzzles are a fun way for them to practice.
