Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My special needs students are wonderful and unique. I teach a K-3rd grade special day class for students with mild to moderate learning disabilities. Our students are from diverse backgrounds and have diverse needs, and they all bring their unique abilities and personalities to the classroom. Some of our students have not identified their colors yet, while others have taught themselves to read. In special education, this sort of spectrum is common, as there are so many ways our little ones are unique in their abilities and challenges.

Approximately 82% of our students are low income.

Our district is cash strapped and often cannot provide the resources that are optimal for our students to thrive. I am so thankful for this opportunity to help my students.

My Project

COVID took a toll on student progress. When we returned to school, it was clear that we needed to teach the fundamentals again. Unfortunately, rote learning is far from engaging.

I created this project to bring FUN back to learning!

All of these resources reinforce our students' basic understanding of math and language arts by incorporating games, and hands-on activities into the curriculum.

As so many stories in the news have illustrated, children are suffering from the impact of COVID, the learning loss and the social emotional toll it took. These games will bring back a sense of fun to school, and set them up for success.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
