My Project

My students are eager builders and love Lego! I have incorporated this love of building by including building blocks in the classroom during any free time; however, this has not been enough for them. I am developing a Lego club among my students to help them see how we can create something out of ordinary objects.

We spend so much time on devices throughout our learning day, it is time to put away the apps and use our hands to create!

We have lots of building bricks in the classroom and these are great for those students who can see something and imagine how to create it. I need something for those kids that need the challenge of building things but require the parameters a set provides to create their structure.

I have selected sets I believe students would greatly enjoy while providing a variety of ability levels. Some sets could be completed within a Lego club session; while others would need to be completed over several sessions and as a group.

The sets have also been selected based on students' current interests. We have read the first Harry Potter book and students are interested in that imaginary world. We also have students interested in video games, so there are some Mario sets included. Additionally, I included animals, trucks and basic house structures.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
