My students need 12 headsets to enable them to use the school computers individually.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Cryan's classroom raised $347
This project is fully funded
I teach sixth grade at a high poverty, extremely diverse middle school in a small town in North Carolina. Before the recession hit, our school was at 70% free or reduced lunch, I expect that our numbers will rise this year.
In this new world of technology, my students are lagging behind. Many of my students do not have the resources necessary to have their own personal computers at home. This means that the only practice and use of computers that they receive is at school. I attempt to use the one computer cart that our school owns in my classroom at least weekly. I have found that some of the assignments that I wish to have the students complete, especially with my lower level readers, would be best accomplished with the sound on. Unfortunately we do not have any headsets for these computers. Twenty five students listening to different items on the computer at the same times makes for a very distracting classroom.
I am asking for headsets with microphones to help alleviate this problem. With the headsets, the students would be able to watch movies and podcasts individually. As I have found out during my teaching career, students do not all learn at the same speed. Some students can watch a movie clip once and have all the information; others need more time. I encourage students to repeat sections that they didn't understand. With the headsets, they would be able to do this without interrupting the other students.
In addition, the headsets come with microphones. One of the lessons that I would like to do this year is to have the students learn to podcast. With these headsets students would be able to create and edit their own podcasts on the computer.
Your support is necessary to make this project a reality. Current school funding for additional materials is non-existent. These headsets would enhance my students’ computer experience and skills substantially. Thank you in advance for your support.
