My Students

As a teacher in a high poverty school district, I work with students that are faced with challenges in and outside the classroom. Despite the challenges my students face, they persevere. My students are high energy, communicative, and enthusiastic learners. They have a lot of energy and are always looking for a fun way to learn. They love to get involved with the lesson in whatever way possible.

My students love to show off their work and teach their peers.

They are excited to teach each other, both in groups and in front of the class. My students are visual learners. They love to use different resources in the room to show learning strategies to their friends. The students are a great group of mathematicians, scientists, writers, and artists.

My Project

We all know the story of The Three Little Pigs and other classic fairy tales. If asked all my students can tell me who the narrator is of the fairy tale. What students may not know is that narration is one type of point of view. Learning about point of view and perspective can be a hard skill to master for many students. It can also be a hard skill to teach without good books to model from.

Students are familiar fairy tales and who is telling the story, when they read fairy tales from another perspective point of view makes more since because they know the perspective is different.

Having books on hand that model different points of view and perspectives is going to help my students learn this standard more easily.
