Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach general education students as well as special needs students. My school is in a very urban location. We are located in Paterson, New Jersey. Most students are not dominant in the English language. Our school has breakfast in the classroom program and lunch in the cafeteria because much of our population struggles with having basic needs met.
My students love to come into the art class even over Google Meets because they have a chance to become critical thinkers and independently create original artwork that relates to them on a personal level.
They are able to explore their emotions and release their frustrations by tapping into their inner thoughts and creating artwork that inspires me and others to keep creating and evolving artistically. I am inspired by my students daily.
Art therapy is a creative method of expression used as a therapeutic technique. Students will be able to create art that will help them understand their emotions, relieve stress, and create positive and uplifting artistic pieces. Students will learn how to become more intuitive and self-aware.
My Project
Since I see all different grade levels in the school building and sometimes I do art in a cart, it is so important that I stay somewhat organized. When I take materials in my cart, I tend to drop things. Picture me rolling down the hallways and papers flying out. Boxes of googly eyes tumbling out as I hit a bump. Stackable boxes would truly help me as I go from class to class. Things are less likely to spill out of my cart and at the end of the day I can stack them up neatly in the closet. Thanks in advance for helping my day run a little smoother.
Students can become more independent and grab the worksheets that they need for the day by accessing each handout from the clearly marked project cases.
Students can also use a storage box to submit completed work. It can serve as a system for my students. One box is "outgoing work" that they need to complete and another box would hold "incoming work" that they have finished.
