My students need computers in my classroom to give them the opportunity to learn from the use of technology. Chromebooks are lighter and smaller than a regular size desk top computer.
I teach in a Title 1 school with children from various backgrounds and social status. The majority of my students are on the free or reduced breakfast/lunch program. I have students who are living in temporary housing and a lot of the parents are having hard times and do the best with what they have. As a result it is difficult for my students to have access to technology on a regular basis at home.
The opportunity to make a difference in a child's life is why I went into teaching and the students in my classroom show me on a daily basis it is the right choice.
It may be that smile I get when they see me coming to get them from the playground, or the hug that they give me first thing or it may be as simple as a picture they drew that they want me to have. The parents of these students are trying so hard to give their child the best opportunity they can. That is why they bring them to school. We have a good reputation in our community, I feel lucky to be their teacher.
My Project
In almost every job of the future computer proficiency is a required skill. It is our job as teachers to make students college ready and life ready. By giving students the opportunity to learn computer skills early in school we are increasing their chance of being prepared for the world they will be living in.
When students are given thoughtful opportunities to use technology in the classroom they make substantial gains in learning as well as technology readiness.
The future of the world will include computers and the future of the world is in the hands of my students. Kindergartners hands are very small, chromebooks are small too. Our school has invested in online programs and having the Chromebooks in my classroom will ensure that my students have access to technology as far as needed experience and to the programs that can be used to increase their literacy skills and mathematics skills. I want to make sure their role in that future is as big as their imaginations can allow it to be.
