Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are budding robotics engineers from Providence Rhode Island. They collaborate to create competitive robots in our school's First FTC and FRC teams, and they have a great time together.
They persevere, ask questions, laugh, and push themselves to be the best they can.
When they are faced with a challenge they aren't afraid to admit that they need help from coaches or other teams. They always come to practice and events with smiles on their faces and maintain the gracious professionalism that guides every First student.
My Project
First Tech Challenge and First Robotics Challenge are competitive multi-day events where teams of robots complete challenges to earn the most points. There are multiple rounds and teams often have to quickly move their robots from the playing field back to their team pit station. Many teams have dedicated robot carts while others have multiple tool charts and working stations.
My students need an easy way to organize their tools with a flat surface to place their robots for routine maintenance.
During their rookie season, they had to lift a 130 lb robot up and down off the ground in order to place it on a short dolley for transport. When they needed emergency tools another teammate would have to carry them in their hands and run back and forth quickly between matches. This toolbox will allow my students to do less unsafe lifting while also being more organized and prepared for rounds.
