Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 3rd graders at my elementary school are not just here to learn. They are here to question, create, solve, and inspire.
We strive for excellence.
We also understand that no matter how excellent we already are, there is always room for growth. Our classroom is a safe space where we foster a love of learning.
We live in East Oakland, but we come from all over the world! We know that public schools do not have enough money, but we do not let that stand in our way. We are empowered, so we find other more creative ways to get what we need. This DonorsChoose page is one of those ways.
My Project
My third graders and I pride ourselves on the classroom community we create each year. Each August, we walk into a classroom that is organized, filled with supplies, and ready for learning. We work hard to keep it that way. Inevitably though, there comes a time when our physical space needs some sprucing and reorganizing.
Our classroom needs some polishing.
It's amazing how the tech that breaks down and the supplies that deplete can impact the culture of our classroom. The color printer and giant timer that were working at the beginning of the year have died, and supplies like batteries and chart paper have been depleted.
Additionally, some of the organization systems that we created at the beginning of the year need adjustment. For instance, we need a new way to return books to our library. We were using a drop box, but that was bending our books. We would like to replace it with a nice soft hamper that we can place our books in gently to keep them nice. We also need longer chargers for our class iPads, because the ones I ordered in the fall are too short for the space where we store our technology.
