I am a special education teacher in a first grade cooperative team teaching classroom in a high-need area of New York. I am beginning my first year in a new school that focuses on creating independent and proactive leaders.

Unfortunately due to certain economic circumstances, my classroom did not receive any type of listening center or read-along books. Many of these students do not have access to technology at home, so the listening center will be very motivating during reading time. In addition, my students have shown a high level of interest in listening to songs on our computer, and this versatile listening center will accommodate four students at a time.

My special education students are very eager to increase their independent reading skills, but need the additional support of listening to the story while reading along with the words. The listening center will also promote independence and increase the students' confidence in their reading. The listening center and read-along books will allow my students to gain a sense of independence when reading, as well as improve their listening skills, fluency, and tracking.

Your donation toward the listening center will help my special education students improve their reading skills, as well as foster better focus and attention on reading fluency and tracking. This donation will not only benefit my present class, but will help many future classes in the school. Thank you for considering a donation to my first grade classroom.
