Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school where almost all of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. They come from diverse homes, and there are many differences languages spoken by my students and their families. I teach in a Essential Elements Special Education classroom. I have an energetic class of diverse learners.

Despite many hardships, my students are eager to learn new things and do their best.

They want to be in school because they want to learn. My students are responsible, respectful, safe, and KIND!

My Project

During the past 2 school years our students have had limited social interactions due to Covid. They now have a hard time atttending to lessons for a decent amount of time. I want my students to improve their social skills by playing with each other again. I also want them to have options of seating to help them move when needed.

Students have spent a lot of time working on devices.

Their time to play games with their peers and teachers has been greatly limited. So many skills have been lost, and I want to close that gap. We will address social skills as we play.

We have a wide variety of learners, and some are reluctant to try because they are afraid of being wrong. I have found that playing a game makes learning less intimidating.

Another great resource that my students will greatly benefit from is flexible seating. I want to havbe a variety of seats so that my students can get their wiggles out while staying in their seat and working.

I also want my students to be able to move around the room to different work stations. Having clipboards will make this so much smoother. Students will not lose papers as often, and they will always have a hard surface to write on.

Covid has impacted my students. They need to relearn some school skills. I know these resources will help us as we continue to meet each student where they are academically, socially, and emotionally and double our efforts to get them where they need to be.
