My Project

Is there any better way of showing students the world through another's eyes than with a book? The Global Read Aloud is just the way to do it. Not only will students read a wonderful book that will give them another's perspective, but they will also participate in reading the same book as students all around the world. The experience is incredible and I look forward to participating every year.

As Pernille, the head of the Global Read Aloud, says, "Global collaboration is necessary to show students that they are part of something bigger than them.

That the world needs to be protected and that we need to care for all people. You can show them pictures of kids in other countries but why not have them speak to each other? Then the caring can begin." Wow, what a powerful experience.

Books teach empathy, which will help students brainstorm how to alleviate suffering in others. The connections students will make with one another will help build caring and community. As far as measuring their growth goes, I plan on using reflective surveys before, throughout, and once we're finished with the book.
