This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are from a high poverty school district. Our school has a diverse student body. All of our students are African Americans, Hispanics, and Asian Americans. Many of my students are faced with several challenges both in the classroom and at home. Despite all the obstacles that my students face, they are still eager to learn and grow academically.
My students are from a magnet school in New Jersey.
Our school is a comprehensive, four-year high school that prepares students for college. Additionally, our school gives students medical exposure so they can gain invaluable work experience in the medical field. Most of my students are now eagerly preparing for college because we are the only school within our city that has a one hundred percent college acceptance rate. My students come from one of the highest poverty cities in the nation. I also teach two classes that are project-based for students with autism.
My Project
My students are still quarantined due to COVID, and our schools are still closed. Some of my students told me, "I'm tired of being home. I want to go to school." I asked them, "Have you thought about doing something academic like taking the SAT or ACT to get ahead?" Many of my students come from families with low income. Their parents can't afford to send them to SAT or ACT prep classes. Some students don't even know that they have to study for the tests. They thought it was either you know it or you don't. However, the SAT and ACT tests questions have many patterns that students might not know. The many techniques in these books will help my students master these standardized tests. These SAT books will be given to my students to prepare them for taking the SAT, ACT, and AP tests.
Higher education provides my students with the tools to survive and strive in today's society.
It's difficult to go to your top choice college if your SAT score is not competitive. Students need to keep practicing taking SAT tests to ensure that they do well on their SATs or ACTs. Students should not be subject to lower SAT scores because they can't afford to practice for the SATs. Quarantine is the best time for students to just hit the books and prepare themselves for applying to college.
