About My Students

The students who are requesting this grant are on the high school boys basketball team. These boys work hard and consider their team to be a family. They have a way of presenting a united front that lets others know they are family. These students have heart even though they may not feel like the most valued athletes in the school. They play well with what they have, but they will appreciate receiving the items requested more than I can express in this paragraph.

This team has heart and drive. Last year that heart and drive brought them to the second round of the playoffs, but their goal of making it to the state championship was cut short. This year they are looking to grab the victory that slipped through their fingers.

Our current basketball situation leaves our team a little flat. We've heard that practice makes perfect, but the balls we have are old and worn out and don't give us the bounce we need to practice to achieve perfection. We run and play hard, and we win as a team or lose as a team. Having new practice balls will enhance our love of the game and give us a stronger sense of pride in our school. We had a great season last year making it to the second round of the playoffs, but didn't reach our goal of getting to the state championship. We have the heart and drive, we just need the equipment to get us to the next level.

In Their Own Words

Last year was a rough heartbreak. We made it to the second round of the playoffs and our hopes were definitely high. Our goal is to not only make it to the state championship this year, but to win. We want to show our school that we are the best in the state.

I am one of the team captains. Taking the steps to get the equipment we need will show my team that I am for them and makes their respect for me as a leader even stronger. I'll be working with my coach to push my teammates to to the top.

Playing with new equipment is really going to make us play better. We were so close to making it to the state championship last year and giving our school a state title in basketball is the legacy we are shooting for. Getting new balls will help us to get to that goal.
