I teach preschool-aged children who attend an early education center in a large urban school district. The children in my classroom have special needs with might include sensory, developmental or language delays. Many are from low-income families and many are Native American or English Language Learners. They all receive services from Early Childhood Special Educators and Speech Therapists; some receive services from Physical and Occupational Therapists, Behavioral Therapists and Psychologists.
Like all young children our students learn best by play .
They participate in age appropriate activities that encourage development of communication development, cogntive skills, motor skills, and social emotional growth and independence. They love school and love learning!
My Project
I plan learning activities in a variety of settings depending on what the children need. I use large group settings to encourage participation with peers, small groups that allow children to practice skills, and one on one instruction with teachers or therapists to learn specific new skills. Since our classroom size has grown, we do not have enough chairs to allow us to work in different settings without spending valuable class time moving chairs from place to place.
We need chairs that are the right size for children and enough chairs that all children can sit comfortably while participating in developmentally appropriate activities.
The chairs I am requesting will be set up for different sized groups, allowing the children to move between groups freely without needed to move chairs around.
