My students need a copy of the classroom book they researched, wrote, illustrated and published at a cost of $19.95 per copy (4 of 9 discounted to $15.00).
I am a 2nd grade teacher in a Title I school-wide program serving students in K-4th grade. These students include ELLs and come from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds with many life challenges. Regardless of the challenges, we work hard academically, are developing appropriate interpersonal life skills, and have created a tremendously caring learning environment.
The students in my class are talented, inquisitive, and engaged learners.
It is my passion that each student is inspired to work at their highest potential, developing confidence and a love of learning.
My Project
The 2nd grade students researched, wrote and illustrated a classroom book about animals for publication. They were provided a rubric of specific research material they should include and then had the ability to include interesting facts they found about their animal. A critical piece of research included conservation efforts for animals currently on the endangered species list.
Many of the families cannot not afford to purchase their student their own copy of the book.
It is my heart that each student have the ability to have their own copy of their published work as a keepsake. Owning their own published work builds self-confidence and becomes a point of reference of achievement when hard work is applied, which has the ability to carry them through challenging academics as well as life circumstances in the future.
