Providing Fun, Multi-Sensory Learning Opportunities to Engage Our Students!

Help me give my students the ability to improve their fine motor and visual motor skills! Some of my students learn differently so we like to try multi-sensory, engaging games and activities to help them improve their skills!

My Students

The Communication and Social Skills Program at our elementary school is designed to support the individual communication, social, sensory, academic and functional needs of our students, utilizing individual approaches to helping students reach their full potential.

Our students are just like you and me, with the exception that they're still learning what works best for their minds and body. Many of them have difficulties processing the sensory input that is around them. Unlike adults, who have had years to realize what helps them focus (yoga, chewing gum, listening to music, dimming lights). Some students seek more input or avoid more input as they attempt to self-regulate (read: be calm and alert). The commotion of students in the hallway may be too loud or visually over-stimulating. The tapping of a student's pencil may be aggravating. They may appear disengaged or lethargic, but what they really need is to move, bounce, or listen to music to "wake up" their bodies.

My Project

I have selected numerous games and multi-sensory supplies and activities. Many of our students in our CSS (Communication and Social Skills) Program, learn differently. Hands-on, multi-sensory approaches are the most effective. Clear and concise activities that have a clear beginning and end point are the best.

With these games and activities, I will be able to provide our students with more effective hands on learning that they need to improve their fine motor and visual motor skills. Fine motor and visual motor skills are the underlying skills that we need to be able to write and cut- two very important skills within the school setting. With these activities, I will be able to engage our students easily and allow them to learn more effectively!
