Teaching in a rural community is an amazing experience. You get to know each and every child, their parents, grandparents, and sometimes even great grandparents. Over the past thirty years I have been blessed with the opportunity to instill a love of physical activity to some amazing boys and girls.
A child's body does not know if it is exercise or play, but it definitely knows when it is having fun.
My students love to learn new sports. As rural Floridians, we spend a lot of time outdoors. It is imperative that the kids have the stamina to endure the heat most of the year. In order to build stamina, we "play". We "play" just about every sport you can think of.
As a Title 1 Targeted Assist School, we do not receive the same funding as full Title 1 Schools. However, our students need resources just as much as other schools do. Time and time again, our faculty and staff reaches into their own pockets to supplement our lack of funding, but we do it without hesitation because we love our students.
My Project
With the addition of the tennis rackets that are just the right size for our third through fifth graders, we will be able to provide the children with their own equipment to learn the game of tennis. In the past, students have had to share. The kids love our tennis unit, and they will enjoy it even more if they have more play time.
Safety is our number one goal in the PE Department.
These cushioned mats will ensure that the kids have an extra layer of protection when completing floor activities, including physical fitness testing. It is much easier for the kids to do sit-ups on a mat, than on the bare floor.
With your generous donations, these outstanding group of youngsters will have many more memorable days with their old Coach in the PE Department.
