This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students come from various social and academic backgrounds. Many of the students are recent arrivals from South America, Russia and Ukraine. Most of my new arrivals live in shelters and speak very little to no English. They come to class ready to learn and eager to engage in the class activities. The students are curious about learning new things and often participate in class demonstrating their knowledge in their home language.
My new arrivals often lack the basic clothing necessary to stay stay warm.
They come to school with clothing that is not appropriate for the weather or that is not their size. I would like to provide them with basic underclothing to help keep them warm.
I would also like to provide the students with some educational materials that they can connect with in their language. I would like the material to help engaged them and provide them with some fun activities.
