I teach in a Title 1 school in the Manhattan Valley area on the Upper Westside of Manhattan, N.Y.C. The school primarily serves minority, low-income families, some of whom live in temporary housing. I am currently teaching the lower grades STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.) The students come from mostly low-income families whose academic levels are varied. I currently teach 200 students in grades Kindergarten to Third Grade. Four out of my ten classes are ICT classes (Integrated Co-Teaching.) Many of the students in the ICT classes have an Individual Educational Plan and receive additional services in school. Six my ten classes are Dual Language classes. In the Dual Language classes, there are many students who have recently arrived to the United States and are English Language Learners. All the children come to the STEAM class excited, ready to learn and wanting to get to work.
