My Students

My classroom is in a selective enrollment math and science academy on the south side of Chicago. My students are historically underrepresented but are highly motivated, and love to explore topics in great detail.

My students love to engage with the world around them, and push themselves to do amazing things in their science classroom.

I want my students to be able to explore science and foster their curiosity for the world around them. This is difficult at times with the supplies we have.

My Project

Within my classroom, students use models to help develop understandings of phenomena that are microscopic. During a normal year, we would spend a lot of time white boarding within class to develop model conventions as a class. Students whiteboard at their desks, and I scaffold models on my whiteboard in the front of the room. Since we are starting remote this year, my methods for scaffolding model conventions will need to change.

A drawing tablet will allow me to facilitate virtual classes and to create clear digital examples of explanatory models.

This is a tool that will be used every day within my virtual classroom.
