My students need digital scales that measure to the hundredths. When students perform labs, they have to wait for a scale station to become free. Our classroom has eight lab tables, allowing students to work easily in groups of 3 to 4. Only two of the scales in our classroom measure to the accuracy we need for most labs. This means that only two groups can record mass data at any given moment. With these additional two scales, the time required for all students to weigh materials will be cut in half. Students will be able to spend more time analyzing data as a class, and moving on to the next learning objective.
