Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every year around February, our students have the opportunity to learn about Chinese New Year, but every year they move on, and there's a new class of students. For this project, we are requesting membership for a website called "WriteReader," where students can make a book of their learning experience to take with them. We are asking for two memberships because we have two ELA/Writing teachers in the older grade.

Making their book gives our students a sense of ownership of their education.

They can also share what they learn at school with their families and relatives when they go home.

We will launch this project with a storybook related to a Chinese tale about Nian, a monster that only shows up on Chinese New Year's Eve. Students will have various opportunities to learn arts and crafts, customs, phrases, and writings related to the Chinese New Year. It takes about three weeks to complete the project, and at the end of this project, students will use this website to compile their Chinese New Year learning experiences.

Our students are creative and full of imagination. Having a platform for our students to show everyone how much they are capable of can not only boost their confidence of being a writer but also create a long-lasting fun memory for them when it comes to Chinese New Year.
