Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The canopies, benches, and organized basketball equipment will create a safe and structured environment where my 5th and 6th-grade students can focus on learning skills instead of battling extreme heat and discomfort. Shade will help prevent overheating and fatigue, allowing students to stay engaged and physically active for longer periods of time. Benches give students a place to rest, hydrate, and listen during instruction, which improves focus and teamwork. Having enough basketballs and an equipment bag keeps our practices organized and efficient, maximizing learning time. When students feel safe and comfortable, they are more confident, cooperative, and ready to grow both physically and socially.

My goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and well-equipped environment where students can develop basketball fundamentals, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.

I want my students to stay active while learning responsibility, communication, and perseverance through sports. This project will also help students build healthy habits and confidence, especially those who may not have access to organized sports outside of school. Ultimately, I want every student to feel included, protected from the heat, and excited to participate.

My students are resilient, energetic, and eager to learn new skills. Many come from families with limited access to extracurricular sports, so school activities mean everything to them. They show up ready to try their best, support one another, and grow as a team. Basketball gives them an outlet to build confidence, form friendships, and experience success beyond the classroom. They deserve the same safe and positive opportunities as any other student athlete.

Mrs. Rodriguez will only receive her materials if this project is fully funded by June 1.
