Help me give my students the tools to understand why protecting the planet is so important, such as books like "Why Do We Recycle" paired with hands on activities such as Hungry Bins.

My Project
Earth Day just passed and it made me realize that I barely had any books or activities that helped fully explain the importance of protecting the planet. My district recently implemented a recycling unit and I thought finding materials and books through DonorsChoose to enhance their learning would be my best option.
It is no secret that the planet needs our help, my students see the garbage on the street, we learned about animals being endangered, and they understand the importance of trees and how deforestation affects them and the planet.
My goal with this project is to create lifelong planet protectors because my students are the future. They are the ones that are inheriting this planet and it needs help.
I want the items in this project to help them understand sorting because that is a skill they need to know in preschool, but to understand what happens when you recycle. I want them to understand that even if they see trash on the streets/at the beach/at the park, that it isn't right. However, I also wanted to make them proactive in their fight to protect the planet. I wanted them to learn about plant life cycles, plant flowers that support pollinators, and just to overall develop an appreciation for the planet we call home.
My students come from a Title 1 school and don't have many opportunities to go on field trips or experience hands-on science/stem activities at museums. I want to bring this to the classroom, so that even if we can't afford a field trip, they still get the experiences they deserve.
