Help me give my students the tools they need to eliminate literacy gaps by providing a laminator to preserve the hands-on activities needed to work with small groups of students.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a small, high poverty school. We have sweet, delightful students who have been impacted by the pandemic. We are working to build our students' confidence as readers and writers.
We have a majority of our students who are multi language learners with Spanish being the dominate language spoken in the home.
We also have a small demographic from Guatemala who speaks a different dialect from Spanish; however, the students are assumed to be Spanish-speaking. Our students are hard workers who want to learn!
My Project
Working with small groups of students allows the students the intimate setting to master skills. While online sources are great, working shoulder to shoulder with students is a more effective way to engage with students who struggle with literacy skills. Many of the materials I use are copied, cut and placed into plastic bags for storage and easy use.
The laminator and laminating sheets will be used to make hands-on instructional intervention activities.
This will allow the materials to last as I work with multiple groups of students. Once laminated the instructional activities are durable and can be used for years to come.
