I work with bright and unique students in preschool through 5th grade. Most of the students I work with learn in self-contained special education classrooms, where they are provided supports and structures to help them succeed in their educational environments. My students are amazing kiddos, and I'm glad to have the opportunity to watch them grow and improve each year.
As a Speech Language Pathologist, my priority is to provide my students with the tools to become strong communicators who are able to socially connect with their world and express all of their ideas to others.
I work on increasing communication skills (e.g. language, speech sounds, fluency, social communication, etc). Each of my students require an individual approach and plan to best suit their learning styles. Often times, I will serve students who have learning profiles and developmentally needs that I have not previously encountered. As these needs often require specialized tools and approaches, it is important to me that I am continuously increasing my knowledge through professional developmental workshops/conferences. My students learn best when Speech therapy sessions are demanding, dynamic, engaging, and related to their daily lives.
My Project
I am hoping to attend a conference centered around using the PROMPT approach to increase outcomes for students who have severe articulation needs. PROMPT is an multidimensional approach that integrates the multiple aspects of speech production (motor, cognitive-linguistic, social-emotional) in order to increase intelligible speech in children. Attending the PROMPT conference will increase my depth of knowledge when I consider different treatment approaches. This will be an intensive 3-day conference where we will receive specialized and explicit instructions on these research based techniques.
This conference will provide me the knowledge to create more efficient and individual therapy plans, and to maximize the growth and potential of my students.
