The variety of skin tones, hair textures, abilities, and cultures within the dolls has allowed every student to see themselves in the classroom, celebrate others, and challenge stereotypes. Before the project, there was a certain harmful stigma that boys cannot play with dolls. They were very disinterested in playing with dolls. After the project, the boys are actively engaging in play with the dolls, coming up with all kinds of roleplaying scenarios. Because of you, a whole new realm of play has opened up for them. Playtime becomes empowerment. Students love learning about places and people. I also believe maps are beautiful and artistic, and students can create their own maps of the classroom or community. My students have even made sound maps. \r\n\r\nFourth graders love learning about maps and all the geography terminology involved.
