My Project

Through the generous support of Allstate, I seek to empower my students to actively participate in promoting health and wellness within the school community.

In this version of Secret Friend, each student will be provided the name of one of their peers and they will be given a water bottle filled with gum, calm strips, and chapstick.

They will be able to use self-adhesive letters, motivational stickers, and cards of affirmations to personalize the water bottle for the peer they have received. They will write a short note telling the student one or two positive things about them and include that in the water bottle. They will then give the personalized water bottle to the other student directly or have it delivered secretly to them.

Learning outcomes:

*Empathy and Compassion: By personalizing water bottles for their peers and writing positive notes, students will enhance their ability to empathize with others and express genuine compassion.

*Self-Reflection and Gratitude: As students engage in affirming their peers, they will also reflect on their own strengths and positive qualities. Expressing gratitude for the positive aspects of their classmates' personalities contributes to a more positive and appreciative school environment.

Items Utilization:

*Water Bottles: Hydration is essential for maintaining focus and overall well-being, ensuring that students can actively participate in class.

*Chapstick: Promotes comfort, prevents distraction, and contributes to a more comfortable and focused learning environment.

*Gum: Provides a healthy distraction for students dealing with anxiety and substance use concerns. It can help alleviate stress and allows students to refocus their attention in a positive manner.

*Calm Strips: Tool for students to manage anxiety during class. They can empower students to take control of their emotional well-being in a subtle and non-disruptive manner.

*Affirmation Cards/Stickers: Powerful tools for boosting self-esteem and fostering positive connections.
