Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
There are approximately 100 students in high school history lab classes, which provide smaller, individualized instruction for students with learning disabilities. 99% of these students qualify for free and reduced lunches.

They have specific learning disabilities as categorized under the special education umbrella but with specialized instruction show phenomenal growth. Students with learning disabilities are more reserve than most of their peers, not very confident or sure of themselves. Encouraging growth in this area utilizing modern materials along with other techniques brings about "growth" in so many of them. They start to believe, and if they believe, they will perform.
My Project
I always try to provide the students up to date and fairly modern materials to work with in the area of history. When I first started teaching years ago I received dated, old materials to use in the classroom, which is not motivating at all. I decided then to do what I could to provide newer supplies for my students.
The pride people take in their work transcends to their homes, their education, families and communities.

I love the excitement and open communication the students develop as we go through the year and talk about different things they are learning as well as when they are working on projects and bring thoughts to me of "how to illustrate" or "they have found this or that and can they use the color printer to print these items out". This is educational growth.
Due to having a classroom color printer, the students are able to create beautiful works, however, when our classroom received the new printer, it came with a limited supply of ink.
