Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a third grade bilingual class in a low income school district where there is approximately a 40% dropout rate. Our school is a "MicroSociety" school where our students create a "society" of their own and build connections between the classroom and real life.

In communities like ours, everyday, the gap of the digital divide is widening. Our students need to prepare for real life experiences and situations. They need the tools that will allow them compete in this fast paced global society. Our schools are falling way behind because we lack the technology that our students need to develop. My students love to give presentations. They often comment on the possibility of being able to do do power point presentations.

An LCD projector in my classroom will open up a world of experiences to my students. As English language learners, it is very beneficial to add a visual component to their everyday lessons. My students become more engaged when I use power point presentations filled with graphics and other visual aids in their lessons. They become more excited about learning. Also, it is important to incorporate technology in their curriculum in which they research and prepare presentations themselves. An LCD projector will help them in practicing presentation and public speaking skills which without a doubt is a skill that they definitely will need in the future.

Your donation will contribute to my students developing leadership skills and getting them exposed to technology that they otherwise would not have available to them.
