Project into successful futures by providing our classroom with a digital projector. Teaching sixth grade, this is the first time my students have had a departmentalized science classroom, and they need a creative and interactive approach to taking notes and engaging with science.
My students are from an inner-city school in the state of Michigan.
Although they live in the most dangerous zip code in their area, they are vibrant and hopeful for a better future. Some students recognize their environment, and seek to look beyond the negativity and find the hope their city has to offer. Even at the young age of 11, these sixth grade students have began looking into which universities they wish to attend and what majors they would like to pursue. These students are resilient and make their own paths to success.
By having a projector, students can engage in learning in a variety of ways. In order to deliver lesson plans in an effective manner, a projector allows me to give information by more than just taking notes on a white board. A projector would allow me to project images to take notes on, and have the students follow along with more than just lined paper. For the struggling students who are far below grade level in reading, using videos and images allows students to comprehend material in a different manner. Video projections also allow students to submit assessments in video form as an alternative to taking a test. A projector would be beneficial to both learn new material, and assess students on what they have learned.
In a technological world, it is important for students to interact with technology in multiple ways.
A projector is one simple tool that would allow students to engage in scientific learning in multiple ways. Instead of simply reading text from books, or completing worksheets, using videos and images sparks students interest and enable them to engage in the learning process. A projector for the classroom would help project students to brighter futures.
