This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember as a kid, wanting something really bad and your parents telling you that they couldn't afford it? Well, most of the students in my class face that challenge every day. Coming from a low income household, many of my students have never used or even seen an iPad.

My students are the "cream of the crop" when it comes to fourth grade at my school.

Out of the 200 fourth graders at my school, my students are the highest achieving group (composed of 10 gifted and 12 high achieving students), therefore requiring more challenging material. We are a Title 1 school, which means that over 90% of our student population is low income and on free or reduced lunch.

My Project

I know that my students would LOVE to be able to have an iPad in the classroom! I would use it as a learning center where students can come and read "Accelerated Reader" books that will be downloaded onto the tablet. Many times, the popular books in the school library get checked out by other students (seeing that we have a student population well over 1,000). This will allow me to download the "popular" books so that my students will not get discouraged and still have access in the classroom to these books that they desperately want to read. I will also use it to download learning apps that they can view to practice math skills like multiplication and division, science skills, and even download interactive maps where they can review places that we've talked about during our Social Studies lessons. There are hundreds of learning apps that I know my students will benefit from. There are even apps for those students with messy handwriting where they can practice their writing.

Many of my students do not have access to computers and other technology at home, so being able to provide them one more resource to help enhance their learning, will surely make a huge impact on their education.

I'm sure that this will become the most "popular" center in my classroom.
