Help me give my students these sensory stimulant tools to help them stay focused, calm, and empowered all while enhancing their brain development and overall productivity in my special education classroom.
I am a special education teacher that currently has a group of 15 special education students with a wide range of needs. I have all disability categories in my room, so creating an environment that meets all of my students' stimulants is difficult, but also crucial, in their overall productivity on a daily basis. Having the ability to provide them with an environment where they have the feeling of empowerment through choosing what tools work for them and help increase their overall focus and productivity would be extremely beneficial to my students.
My students are all amazing individuals in their own ways, who deserve to have the tools available to them to help them feel successful in their school environment.
Whatever I can do to help increase their focus, productivity, and feelings of empowerment all while meeting their stimulus input, I will try to do.
My Project
The students that I have in my special education classroom have a wide variety of needs and stimulants. By taking the time to plan and create a calming and flexible environment in my classroom, many of my students' sensory stimulants will be met. This will result in increasing my students' overall focus and productivity.
All of these sensory stimulant tools will help with creating a calm and productive classroom environment and will help in enhancing the students' brain development, all while helping them relax, remain calm, and feel empowered and productive. Sensory tools (such as flexible seating, sensory toys, low light lamps, fluorescent light covers, weighted blankets, noise-canceling headphones, etc) can benefit students with sensory deficits, students that struggle to stay focused for a long period of time, students that simply need something to help them relax in high stressed situations, and so much more.
Having the availability of flexible seating can help the students also have a feeling of empowerment, by having some degree of choice and control over their daily environment and productivity, all while enhancing their sensory inputs without them even realizing it.
