This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My students love projects! It is one of the ways I get to assess what they are learning. Throughout the school year, my middle school students complete various projects from the beginning of the Mesopotamian era through the Underground Railroad period. During Black History Month, we focus on projects highlighting significant African Americans. We also concentrate on Women's History Month and pay homage to the several women who have paved the way.
My students are always needing pencils, glue sticks, modeling clay, and paper for their projects.
On some occasions, I will laminate things for them depending on what they are working on. Our classes are 75 minutes long, so it is not uncommon for a student to work up an appetite while they are working on their assignments or projects. My goal for every project students complete is to assess their depth of knowledge while allowing them to have fun and be creative in the process. Projects get messy and the cleaning wipes will help us to disinfect our areas once we are done. Spot it makes for a great brain break while students focus on paying attention to details.
My students are special because our students are some of the most gifted and talented students you will ever have the pleasure of meeting. They have massive potential that can cultivated by teachers who care and take the time to nurture them and give them support they might not receive in their homes.
