My students have limited access to non-fiction reading materials on their grade level.
This subscription would provide access to on-grade level, current events.
I have 25 wonderful 5th grade students. We are a Title I school because of high poverty. State budget cuts are forcing out any classroom "extras" in order to maintain teachers. My students are on various reading levels. I teach reading in small groups.
My Project
Some of my students don't have access to the Internet or a newspaper to keep up with current events. Most non-fiction is more expensive than fiction, therefore most schools tend to have less of a non-fiction library. I think it would be fabulous to provide my students with non-fiction reading material that is written on current events and is age appropriate for them. My students need a subscription to Time Magazine for Kids. I want my students to have the best opportunities possible. We can't wait to catch up to the world around us by reading all about what is going on! Please help me make a difference for the 25 students in my classroom by providing them with non-fiction reading materials. Reading is such an important skill. In order to be productive citizens, children need to be strong readers.
This project will help me reach all of my students and help provide us with relevant reading materials.
The students get so excited to read about current events and to see what is going on in the world around them.
