Help keep my young students engaged in learning! With the help of a document camera in my classroom I can capture a teachable moment and the spirit of learning in my students. Excitement will begin when they see their writing and experience their peer's feedback.
I teach in a public school in New Hampshire with a 35% poverty rate.
The children in my class are bright and enthusiastic learners. They love to read, write and share the stories they create on a daily basis. We have minimal technology in our classroom. Right now we have a desktop computer, a mini notebook (thanks to Donor's Choose, an overhead projector, and I have access to a projector. My students always want to work on the computers to do research and type their stories. They want to learn and love to learn.
My Project
I am hoping to gain an EPSON document camera for my classroom. Currently I have an old overhead projector which really doesn't engage my students. I also have access to a projector which would work with the EPSON document camera. If we are working on a writing project and one of my students has written an exciting lead paragraph I would love to be able to simply place their writing on the document camera and share it with the class.
Now I have to leave the room to make a transparency of the writing. Then I would have to run back to the classroom and place it on the overhead projector. Time has passed and I have lost the enthusiasm and excitement of the moment. Many times while reading a story as a class it is important to share the actual page that an author has written. Rather than holding up the book for the children to squint to see it would have so much more effect to project using the document camera. Students will become much more excited about learning in the moment.
This project is so important because I believe it will truly bring excitement in learning to my classroom.
Not only will it affect the students I currently have but it will be in my classroom for years to come and help future students. It is so important to keep children engaged and foster their love and excitement for learning. Having the document camera in the class will do this by seizing the moment and sharing in the moment.
