My Project

Last year, our district cut secondary library staffing in half, which means that I teach classes in the morning and only get to be a librarian for two periods a day. Effectively, the only time students can come to the library is at lunch. They have fallen out of the habit, since their teachers don’t get to bring them during class time anymore, so I am trying to double down on enticing them into the space.

One Friday every month, I will be hosting Project Lit at lunch, where students will do activities related to a book of the month and get rewarded with candy or chips.

They also make buttons for the books they check out and wear them on their backpacks with pride. (Or did until our button maker broke last year!)

In the past, we have had an average of 30-40 kids reading and discussing books of the month, but before we can get that happening again, we need to lure them in the door. I don't have a budget for anything and have very little time, so I am entirely reliant on donations. Anything helps!
